Course Title:
The Times They Are A-Changin’ - So Are the Oral Diseases and the Drugs We Use to Treat Them
That the times have changed over the past years for all children and adolescents is an understatement and the diseases in the mouth are no exception. This interactive course focuses on new infectious diseases, recently recognized head and neck manifestations of common diseases, updated causes about well-recognized oral lesions, newly described oral conditions and the latest treatment approaches for symptomatic lesions. A range of soft tissues and periodontal diseases are described for this age group. It is important to be familiar with the contributions of new infections, habits and behaviors in the development of some of these oral conditions. Characteristic signs and symptoms are highlighted, along with a potential connection to systemic diseases, behavioral health issues and medication utilization. The one thing that has not changed is that a lot is going on in the mouths of our children.
Learning Objectives:
- Discover recently-described orodental entities and their clinical presentation in children and adolescents.
- Learn new facts about well-known oral conditions and their relevance to the pediatric age group.
- Compare and contrast oral disease management options, including the latest over-the-counter and prescription drugs.
